Akrapovic 2007-2008 Yamaha R1 Slip-On Exhaust System
The Akrapovic
slip-on exhaust system for the 2007-2008 Yamaha R1 represents an
initial move in the direction of tuning and is intended for riders which do not
desire extensive changes in the area of the exhaust system. The slip-on exhaust system
for the Yamaha R1 is offered in SP Series and Slash Cut versions. Both are facilitated by the use of
the stock catalyst as the system does not interfere with the catalyst position
unless the optional Y-Pipe is added to the system which removes the the stock
catalytic converter and increases power and torque throughout the entire RPM
range. In terms of performance measurements, the two types do not differ much. Their
advantages are shown below in comparison with a stock exhaust system.

2007-2008 Yamaha R1 Slash Cut Slip-On Exhaust System
The basic configuration of
the Akrapovic SP Series Slip-On or Slash Cut Slip-On is
composed of two mufflers, the difference being only the materials used and
the design. Both style Slip-Ons have mufflers (outer sleeve) made from
titanium or carbon fiber. In both cases, the mufflers are attached beneath
the seat of the motorcycle by carbon fiber clamps. Link pipes are made from
stainless steel for the SP Series while the Slash Cuts are titanium. Both
are cylindrical and welded to the mufflers. The joining of the link pipes
with the stock header assembly is executed with a sleeve joint, the strength
of the joint is provided by a metal clamp. If the optional Y-Pipe is added,
the system does not retain the stock catalytic converter.

Power & Torque:
Measurements for both options of the exhaust were prepared. There is
a minimal difference between the two options. Both exhaust options obtain a
somewhat better result in the lower and particularly in the middle range of
rotation. Despite the initial level of tuning, the system can substantially
upgrade the serial release of power from the engine. At 12500 rpm, 168.7 HP
was measured at the back wheel (both options). The systems do not differ
much in terms of torque either. The upgrade of torque is nicely
evident particularly between 3200 rpm and 6500 rpm in which range the motor
achieves the highest gains.
Optional Y-Pipe
An optional Y-Pipe may be
purchased with the either the SP Series or Slash Cut Slip-On exhaust systems
to improve air flow, increase power and reduce weight even further. The
Y-Pipe is composed of stainless steel.
